I don’t care, I think it’s still a great way to experience Legos. My son’s team just had their competition yesterday. This was his first one, and sadly they came in dead last on the board. Bummed out and severely frustrated as he was, I tried to consult him by saying, look, this wasn’t for not. This competition was not only a great chance for us to spend quality time together, a chance to visit a town we’ve never been to, but a great learning experience. I look forward to more of these in the future – should they come (as I say – worried the point of your story should effect the future of these competitions). Anyway, I’ve been eBay shopping like crazy – buying what I can of these kits – hoping to have more time with these robots at home – knowing/hoping he’ll be more prepared for the next Lego Robot challenges to come.

Trying to use the old Lego programming environment is a pain, using either old OS or emulators. You might need to experiment with usb/serial adapters to get the IR tower to work

Having gotten that one as our first set for my then 7yo last year, I’m really concerned about the end of support just as he’s starting to take a sincere interest in building beyond the stock robot constructs. Any suggestions or thoughts on how people will extend their usage, especially in the event that the application might stop functioning without support as new OS update come out?
